NFTs are Being Used to Preserve Street Art and Compensate Street Artists

If it’s one thing that people can agree on with NFTs, it’s that they give back control to the creator. This is being felt by the street artist community in the US. Anyone who has created an NFT can sell it online and have their effort rewarded.

NFTs for Street Art

Streeth is the first of its kind platform which will collect street art on the Ethereum Blockchain. It exclusively auctions off street art. By allowing street artists to fully control their own art, it aims to generate sustainable income for them.

Since the pipeline of NFTs leads directly back to the creators, middlemen have been cut out. However, it’s about more than NFTs for street artists giving them compensation.

Since the pipeline of NFTs leads directly back to the creators, middlemen have been cut out. However, it’s about more than NFTs for street artists giving them compensation. It’s about preserving street art, a valuable part of any city’s culture.

Through NFTs, it’s now possible to have an iron-clad grip on street artwork rights. This means that street artwork can have an identity of its own in perpetuity. It can be celebrated as a landmark. Hence, Streeth is a platform that acts as a museum as well as an auction marketplace for street art.

By scanning graffiti or street murals, they can be turned into NFTs which forever immortalize the art. This places street art in the same category as the works hanging in museums and those decorating historic buildings.

The image of the street artist is currently that of a paint can-wielding loner. With NFTs and such platforms, there is a chance that they’ll be treated like the artists they are. Instead of vandalism, their practice can be seen as the artistic expression that it is.
